Side by side
| Vercel | Uno Sites | |
|---|---|---|
| What it runs | Framework apps: build step, static files and functions | Static files only. Server code runs as an app on your computer |
| Price | Hobby $0. Pro $20 a month, with one deploying seat and $20 of monthly usage credit | Free on every plan |
| Price for a business site | Hobby teams are restricted to non-commercial personal use only; all commercial usage requires a Pro or Enterprise plan | Free, the same as any other site |
| How you publish | A Git push, the CLI or the dashboard; the build runs on Vercel | Ask the agent in Uno Work, use Sites in the console, or call the API |
| Previews | A push to a branch that is not the production branch, or a pull request, creates a preview deployment with its own URL | Publish under a second name |
| Password | On Pro, Password Protection is an add-on at $20 per month for each protected project; Hobby has Vercel Authentication, which asks visitors to sign in with Vercel | Free. Visitors see a password page; after the right password the browser remembers it for 7 days, and a new password signs everyone out |
| Forms | Not in the plans we read; add a function or a form service | Free: a plain HTML form, entries to your email |
| Server code | Functions, up to 300 seconds a call on Hobby | None on the site. The backend runs on your computer |
| Size | 100 MB of source files per CLI deployment on Hobby and 1 GB on Pro | 50 MB and 1,000 files a site; 10 GB for all sites |
| Traffic included | Hobby: 100 GB of Fast Data Transfer a month. Pro: 1 million CDN requests and 1 TB of data transfer each month on the lowest Flat Rate CDN tier | No traffic figure published |
| Own domain | Up to 50 domains per project on Hobby | A subdomain by CNAME; a root domain cannot |

How the site goes online
On Vercel a build runs on every push and ends in a preview or production deployment. On Uno you build on your side and publish the result: the folder goes up, and Uno keeps the copy. Uno publishes the dist/ or public/ folder of a project; keys, .env files and source files stay out.
# Vercel: preview deployment, then production $ vercel $ vercel --prod # Uno Sites: the built folder as one zip $ curl -s -H "Authorization: Bearer $UNO_API_KEY" -X POST https://console.uno.place/api/v1/deploy \ -F "[email protected]" -F "slug=my-cafe" {"slug":"my-cafe","url":"https://my-cafe.uno4.me/"}
When the site needs a backend
A Vercel Function runs inside the platform and bills for the CPU it uses. A site on Uno runs no server code. When it needs some, the backend runs as an app on your computer and the site sends one path to it, such as /api. The page and the API share one address, and the front end needs no change. The Sites page shows the call.
| You need | On Vercel | On Uno |
|---|---|---|
| An API behind the site | A function in the project | An app on your computer, routed from /api |
| A database | A Marketplace integration | Postgres in one call |
| A bot or a worker next to it | A separate service | The same computer |
Where Uno Sites is worse
- No build step, and no server code. Next.js with server rendering does not fit. Its static export (
output: 'export') does. It writes the pages to an out folder; zip that folder and publish the zip. - No preview URL for every branch. You publish a second site under another name.
- A site is up to 50 MB and 1,000 files. Put videos and downloads in cloud storage.
- A root domain like mycafe.com cannot point at a site; www.mycafe.com can.
- Vercel states what traffic each plan includes. Uno publishes no traffic figure for sites.
