Once you approve it, the bot gets an https address. Telegram sends each message there, and the sleeping computer wakes to answer.
Why it stays online
A bot does not need a computer that is awake all day. It needs one that wakes when Telegram calls.
The one rule: a bot on a webhook wakes the computer with each message; a bot on long polling cannot, so switch it to a webhook. Ask for a webhook bot, or move your own bot to one.

Before you start
My bot uses long polling. Will it work?
Not on a sleeping computer: a bot on long polling only makes outgoing requests, and an outgoing request does not wake a sleeping computer. Switch it to a webhook. python-telegram-bot has run_webhook for it.
Is the first answer slow?
After a sleep, the first message waits for the wake-up. Our measurement of 3 October 2026 gave a median of 118 ms through the console. Later messages find it awake.
What if the token leaks?
Send /revoke to @BotFather. It issues a new token and the old one stops working. You paste the token into a safe field, not into the chat.
